This Alma Mater is based, in part, on the original Alma Mater by John Bert Graham. The text was drawn from that source, but the tune and harmonization are new. The opening material is based on the pitches of the Trinity bell peal, which was composed by former Trinity composer William Thornton. The original version was completed in 1998; a version for choir was completed in January of 1999; and more arrangements for band, orchestra, and choir (with optional handbells) was completed in 2002.

The original setting may use piano or organ accompaniment. (No registration is indicated in the score.) The final unison chorus may be joined by any assembly or audience in singing the closing section—a setting of the first verse. The conductor may indicate where and when to stand. The closing section may also be done independently for any occasion and is now the standard accompaniment for performance.
