Festival Rondo (1996)

Premiered by the Tacoma Symphony. Harvey Felder, conductor

Orchestra — 8’25”

commission & premiere

This work is a shortened version of A Fivescore Festival (1990) which was commissioned by the City of Kent, Washington, in celebration of their Centennial and written specifically for their community (semi-professional) orchestra, the Rainier Symphony Orchestra.  Because this was a commission using community funds, the City was fairly specific as to the type of work they wanted. The work was to be "festive, uplifting, and accessible to the general public, celebrating the settlement of the valley and the city."  The piece is a series of four preludes and a rondo.  This version takes part of the first prelude and combines it with the last rondo for a shorter concert work.
